My First 90 Days: A Freshman Check-In

Hitting the 90-day mark as a freshman, I can confidently say my adjustment away from home has gone really well. I’m in an environment where I get the support I need, and staying active within the school community has been key to building friendships and navigating the transition.

I encourage all incoming students to engage fully with the school’s resources, clubs, fraternities, and sororities. For me, one of my biggest personal hurdles wasn’t adjusting to a roommate, I was already used to sharing a room with my brother and I’m fortunate to have a great one! Instead, the biggest adjustment was the dining hall meals. For other peers, the challenge was adjusting to being a long way from home.

Part of my unique adjustment was moving from a large city with subways and buses to a place like Tuscaloosa, where public transportation is quite different.

Regardless of these small shifts, my overall adjustment has been smooth. I encourage anyone who might be struggling to not hesitate, seek out the resources available to you.
